Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID) Next Gen Internship Programme 2025

The Next Gen/Campus Reporter project, an initiative of the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID), provides outstanding campus journalists and Mass Communication students in Nigeria with a unique opportunity to intern with mainstream media organizations. This initiative is designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world journalism by offering hands-on experience in professional media environments.

Through structured mentorship, participants gain direct access to seasoned journalists who guide them in honing their reporting, writing, and investigative skills. The programme also fosters networking by connecting aspiring journalists with industry professionals, creating valuable relationships that can shape their careers.

Beyond technical training, the initiative builds confidence by immersing students in high-pressure newsrooms where they learn to meet deadlines, conduct thorough research, and report ethically. Selected participants emerge with enhanced skills, industry exposure, and a deeper understanding of the media landscape.

Ultimately, the Next Gen/Campus Reporter project equips young journalists with the tools and experience necessary for a successful career, strengthening the future of journalism in Nigeria.

Eligibility for Next Gen

• Applicant must have graduated from a tertiary institution and be awaiting NYSC, or be a Mass Communication SIWES candidate;
• Must be available full-time for a minimum of 3 months before commencing NYSC, or have at least 3 months available for SIWES;
• Must have published at least 5 high-quality accountability reports on the Campus Reporter website;
• Must identify a reputable media organisation in your locality and obtain contact details of the Managing Editor/Director.
